A double continuous white line painted on the road means:
- ○You may cross from the right-hand line side only
- ✓All traffic must keep to the left of the lines, except in an emergency or for access
- ○Overtaking is permitted in good weather
- ○Cyclists only may cross the lines
Correct answer
All traffic must keep to the left of the lines, except in an emergency or for access
Single or double continuous white lines separate traffic travelling in opposite directions, and all traffic must keep to the left of them. You must never cross or straddle them to overtake. The only exceptions are an emergency, or access — crossing to enter or leave a side road, premises or land on the right-hand side of the road.
