Theory Test

Theory Test Ireland

What happens if you fail the Irish driver theory test?

Quick answer

If you fail, you can take the Irish driver theory test again. There is no limit on the number of attempts, but you must rebook at theorytest.ie and pay the fee again each time.

You can resit as many times as needed

Failing is not the end -- you can resit as many times as you need. You will not be told which questions you got wrong, only your total score, so treat a fail as a signal to go back and practise all five study areas more thoroughly before rebooking.

Booking a resit

Book a fresh appointment at theorytest.ie and pay the fee again. Check the current rules on how soon you can resit -- there may be a short waiting period. Your previous fail does not count against future attempts.

Pass next time

Before resitting, identify where you are losing marks. Realistic 40-question mocks that show your weakest study area and explain every answer turn a near-miss into a confident pass -- without paying for a third attempt.

This is general guidance from an independent study app, not official advice. Always confirm current requirements and fees on theorytest.ie.
